Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Pemberian makanan pendamping ASI (MPASI) umumnya dimulai saat bayi berusia 6 bulan.

"Sesuai rekomendasi WHO, pemberian MPASI secara umum dimulai ketika bayi mencapai usia 6 bulan. Pada usia tersebut kebutuhan energi dan zat gizi bayi mulai melampaui yang dapat dipenuhi oleh ASI saja," tutur Ketua Pengurus Pusat Ikatan Dokter Anak Indonesia (IDAI), Dr. dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso SpA, Subsp Kardio(K).

Dalam kondisi tertentu, pemberian MPASI dapat dipertimbangkan lebih awal, yaitu sejak usia 4 bulan atau 17 minggu. Namun, dokter pasti punya pertimbangan klinis terkait ini dan bayi telah menunjukkan kesiapan perkembangan untuk menerima MPASI.

Selain usia, orangtua juga perlu memperhatikan empat hal berikut tanda bayi siap MPASI :

Mampu mempertahankan posisi kepala dan leher dengan stabil.
Mampu duduk dengan bantuan dan mempertahankan posisi tubuh yang memadai.
Menunjukkan koordinasi gerakan mulut dan kemampuan menelan makanan dengan tekstur yang sesuai.
Menunjukkan ketertarikan terhadap makanan dan mulai mampu menerima makanan dari sendok.

"Kesiapan tersebut harus dinilai secara keseluruhan, bukan hanya berdasarkan satu tanda," kata Piprim dalam pesan tertulis pada Senin (12/11/2026).

Ia juga mengingatkan pemberian makanan yang tidak sesuai dengan usia, kemampuan menelan, atau tekstur yang dapat ditoleransi bayi dapat meningkatkan risiko tersedak, aspirasi, dan gangguan pemberian makan.
