Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) menyiapkan 19 kandidat obat herbal untuk naik ke tingkat fitofarmaka untuk mendukung kemandirian obat.

"Obat herbal ini saya kira sangat potensial. Dan, BRIN sudah juga berkolaborasi dengan berbagai pihak untuk mempercepat proses obat herbal ini," kata Kepala BRIN Arif Satria di kompleks Istana Kepresidenan Jakarta, Selasa (27/10/2026).

Arif menjelaskan sejumlah obat herbal hasil riset BRIN saat ini masih berada pada tahap obat herbal terstandar (OHT). Untuk naik ke tingkat klasifikasi fitofarmaka, obat tersebut harus melalui berbagai uji, termasuk uji klinis yang kini sedang berlangsung.

Untuk mempercepat hal tersebut, BRIN berkoordinasi dengan Kementerian Kesehatan dan Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM).

Mengenal Beda OHT dan Fitofarmaka

Banyak orang mungkin belum mengetahui perbedaan obat herbal terstandar (OHT) dan fitofarmaka. Keduanya sama-sama berasal dari bahan alam, tetapi memiliki tingkat pembuktian ilmiah yang berbeda.

Begini perbedaan keduanya mengutip laman BPOM:

OHT

Merupakan obat alam yang telah digunakan secara turun-temurun untuk pemeliharaan kesehatan, peningkatan kesehatan, pencegahan penyakit, pengobatan, dan/ atau pemulihan kesehatan.

Mengenai keamanan dan khasiatnya dilakukan secara ilmiah dengan uji praklinik serta bahan baku yang telah distandardisasi.

Fitofarmaka

Fitofarmaka adalah Obat Bahan Alam yang digunakan untuk pemeliharaan kesehatan, peningkatan kesehatan, pencegahan penyakit, pengobatan, dan/ atau pemulihan kesehatan.

Telah dibuktikan keamanan dan khasiatnya secara ilmiah dengan uji praklinik dan uji klinik serta bahan baku dan produk jadinya telah distandardisasi. Saat ini sudah ada 26 jenama fitofarmaka yang terdaftar di BPOM.

Perbedaan utama antara OHT dan fitofarmaka terletak pada pembuktian ilmiahnya. OHT telah dibuktikan melalui uji praklinik dan menggunakan bahan baku yang terstandar, sedangkan fitofarmaka telah dibuktikan melalui uji praklinik dan uji klinik serta menggunakan bahan baku dan produk jadi yang terstandar.
